Details
A vulnerability, which was classified as critical, was found in PHP up to 7.2.27/7.3.14/7.4.2 (Programming Language Software). This affects the function PharData::buildFromIterator of the component Phar Archive Handler. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a permissions vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-281. The product does not preserve permissions or incorrectly preserves permissions when copying, restoring, or sharing objects, which can cause them to have less restrictive permissions than intended. In PHP versions 7.2.x below 7.2.28, 7.3.x below 7.3.15 and 7.4.x below 7.4.3, when creating PHAR archive using PharData::buildFromIterator() function, the files are added with default permissions (0666, or all access) even if the original files on the filesystem were with more restrictive permissions. This may result in files having more lax permissions than intended when such archive is extracted.
The weakness was disclosed 02/27/2020. This vulnerability is uniquely identified as CVE-2020-7063 since 01/15/2020. An attack has to be approached locally. The successful exploitation requires a authentication. It demands that the victim is doing some kind of user interaction. Technical details are known, but no exploit is available. MITRE ATT&CK project uses the attack technique T1222 for this issue.
Upgrading to version 7.2.28, 7.3.15 or 7.4.3 eliminates this vulnerability.
