Details
A vulnerability has been found in Wireshark (Packet Analyzer Software) and classified as problematic. This vulnerability affects an unknown functionality of the file epan/dissectors/packet-eap.c of the component EAP Dissector. The manipulation as part of a Packet leads to a injection vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-74. The product constructs all or part of a command, data structure, or record using externally-influenced input from an upstream component, but it does not neutralize or incorrectly neutralizes special elements that could modify how it is parsed or interpreted when it is sent to a downstream component. As an impact it is known to affect availability. CVE summarizes:
In Wireshark 3.2.0 to 3.2.1, 3.0.0 to 3.0.8, and 2.6.0 to 2.6.14, the EAP dissector could crash. This was addressed in epan/dissectors/packet-eap.c by using more careful sscanf parsing.
The weakness was presented 02/27/2020. This vulnerability was named CVE-2020-9428 since 02/27/2020. The exploitation appears to be easy. The attack can be initiated remotely.
