Details
A vulnerability, which was classified as critical, has been found in Red Hat Ansible Engine 2.7.x/2.8.x/2.9.x. Affected by this issue is some unknown functionality of the component Package Module. The manipulation of the argument use as part of a Parameter leads to a argument injection vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-88. The product constructs a string for a command to be executed by a separate component
in another control sphere, but it does not properly delimit the
intended arguments, options, or switches within that command string. Impacted is confidentiality, integrity, and availability. CVE summarizes:
A flaw was found in Ansible Engine when the module package or service is used and the parameter 'use' is not specified. If a previous task is executed with a malicious user, the module sent can be selected by the attacker using the ansible facts file. All versions in 2.7.x, 2.8.x and 2.9.x branches are believed to be vulnerable.
The weakness was released 03/16/2020 as not defined bug report (Bugzilla). The advisory is available at bugzilla.redhat.com. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2020-1738 since 11/27/2019. The exploitation is known to be difficult. Local access is required to approach this attack. A simple authentication is required for exploitation. Successful exploitation requires user interaction by the victim. Technical details are known, but there is no available exploit.
