A vulnerability classified as critical was found in HP OpenView Application Manager up to 4.x (Network Management Software). This vulnerability affects the function nvd_exec of the component Notify Daemon. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a stack-based overflow vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-121. A stack-based buffer overflow condition is a condition where the buffer being overwritten is allocated on the stack (i.e., is a local variable or, rarely, a parameter to a function). Multiple stack-based buffer overflows in the nvd_exec function in HP Radia Notify Daemon 3.1.2.0 (formerly by Novadigm), and other versions including 2.x, 3.x, and 4.x, allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary code via a command with crafted parameters to a RADEXECD process.
The bug was discovered 05/03/2005. The weakness was published 06/02/2005 by John Cartwright (Website). The advisory is shared for download at itrc.hp.com. This vulnerability was named CVE-2005-1825 since 06/02/2005. The attack can be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is required for a successful exploitation.
