A vulnerability, which was classified as problematic, has been found in Microsoft Windows 2000/Server 2003/XP (Operating System). Affected by this issue is an unknown function of the component Agent Internet Content. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a cross site scripting vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-80. The product receives input from an upstream component, but it does not neutralize or incorrectly neutralizes special characters such as "<", ">", and "&" that could be interpreted as web-scripting elements when they are sent to a downstream component that processes web pages. The bug was discovered . The weakness was presented 06/14/2005 by Michael Krax as MS05-032 (Website). The advisory is shared for download at microsoft.com. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2005-1214 since 04/22/2005. The attack may be launched remotely. No form of authentication is required for exploitation. Successful exploitation requires user interaction by the victim. There are neither technical details nor an exploit publicly available. The MITRE ATT&CK project declares the attack technique as T1059.007.

The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 18485 (MS05-032: Vulnerability in Microsoft Agent Could Allow Spoofing (890046)), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 90259 (Microsoft Agent Content-Spoofing Vulnerability (MS05-032)).
Applying a patch is able to eliminate this problem. The bugfix is ready for download at microsoft.com. A possible mitigation has been published 2 years after the disclosure of the vulnerability.
