The bug was discovered 04/10/2007. The weakness was shared 04/10/2007 by JJ. Reyes and Carsten Eiram (Agent) with Secunia Research as confirmed posting (Bugtraq). The advisory is shared for download at securityfocus.com. This vulnerability was named CVE-2007-1205 since 03/02/2007. The attack can be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is required for a successful exploitation. There are neither technical details nor an exploit publicly available.
It is declared as proof-of-concept. The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 25023 (MS07-020: Vulnerability in Microsoft Agent Could Allow Remote Code Execution (932168)), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 90392 (Microsoft Agent Allows Remote Code Execution (MS07-020)).
Upgrading eliminates this vulnerability. Applying a patch is able to eliminate this problem. The bugfix is ready for download at microsoft.com. The best possible mitigation is suggested to be upgrading to the latest version. A possible mitigation has been published immediately after the disclosure of the vulnerability.
