A vulnerability was found in Adobe Acrobat Reader up to 7.0 on Linux/Solaris (Document Reader Software). It has been declared as critical. This vulnerability affects the function UnixAppOpenFilePerform of the file /Filespec. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a memory corruption vulnerability. Stack-based buffer overflow in the UnixAppOpenFilePerform function in Adobe Reader 5.0.9 and 5.0.10 for Unix allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary code via a PDF document with a long /Filespec tag.

The bug was discovered 05/12/2005. The weakness was disclosed 07/05/2005 by iDefense with iDEFENSE (Website). The advisory is available at idefense.com. This vulnerability was named CVE-2005-1625 since 05/17/2005. The attack can be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is required for a successful exploitation. Successful exploitation requires user interaction by the victim. Technical details are known, but there is no available exploit.
