Adobe FrameMaker version 2019.0.6 (and earlier versions) lacks proper validation of the length of user-supplied data prior to copying it to a fixed-length stack-based buffer. This could be exploited to execute arbitrary code with the privileges of the current user. User interaction is required to exploit this vulnerability in that the target must open a malicious FrameMaker file.
The weakness was disclosed 09/08/2020 as APSB20-54 as confirmed security bulletin (Website) via ZDI (Zero Day Initiative). The advisory is available at helpx.adobe.com. The public release has been coordinated in cooperation with the vendor. This vulnerability was named CVE-2020-9725. The attack can be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is required for a successful exploitation. Successful exploitation requires user interaction by the victim.
