Details
A vulnerability classified as critical has been found in Acronis Cyber Backup up to 12.5 Build 16341 (Backup Software). Affected is an unknown function. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a server-side request forgery vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-918. The web server receives a URL or similar request from an upstream component and retrieves the contents of this URL, but it does not sufficiently ensure that the request is being sent to the expected destination. This is going to have an impact on confidentiality, integrity, and availability. CVE summarizes:
An issue was discovered in Acronis Cyber Backup before 12.5 Build 16342. Some API endpoints on port 9877 under /api/ams/ accept an additional custom Shard header. The value of this header is afterwards used in a separate web request issued by the application itself. This can be abused to conduct SSRF attacks against otherwise unreachable Acronis services that are bound to localhost such as the NotificationService on 127.0.0.1:30572.
The bug was discovered 07/30/2020. The weakness was presented 09/14/2020 as confirmed mailinglist post (Full-Disclosure). The advisory is available at seclists.org. This vulnerability is traded as CVE-2020-16171. It is possible to launch the attack remotely. The exploitation doesn't require any form of authentication. Technical details are unknown but a public exploit is available.
