A vulnerability has been found in Goahead Webserver V.2.0/V.2.1 (Web Server) and classified as problematic. Affected by this vulnerability is some unknown functionality of the component GET Request Handler. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a path traversal vulnerability. The product uses external input to construct a pathname that is intended to identify a file or directory that is located underneath a restricted parent directory, but the product does not properly neutralize special elements within the pathname that can cause the pathname to resolve to a location that is outside of the restricted directory. The bug was discovered 02/16/2010. The weakness was disclosed 05/03/2001 by Matt Moore with WESTPOINT as not defined posting (Bugtraq). It is possible to read the advisory at archives.neohapsis.com. This vulnerability is known as CVE-2001-0228. The exploitation appears to be easy. The attack can be launched remotely. The exploitation doesn't need any form of authentication. Technical details are unknown but a public exploit is available. The attack technique deployed by this issue is T1006 according to MITRE ATT&CK.
It is possible to download the exploit at exploit-db.com. It is declared as proof-of-concept. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 86368 (GoAhead WebServer URL Encoded Slash Directory Traversal Vulnerability).
