A vulnerability, which was classified as critical, has been found in Goahead Webserver 2.1.1/2.1.2/2.1.3/2.1.4/2.1.5 (Web Server). This issue affects an unknown functionality of the component 404 Error Message. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a cross site scripting vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-80. The product receives input from an upstream component, but it does not neutralize or incorrectly neutralizes special characters such as "<", ">", and "&" that could be interpreted as web-scripting elements when they are sent to a downstream component that processes web pages. Cross-site scripting vulnerability in GoAhead Web Server 2.1 allows remote attackers to execute script as other web users via script in a URL that generates a "404 not found" message, which does not quote the script.
The bug was discovered 07/10/2002. The weakness was published 07/23/2002 by Matt Moore with WESTPOINT (Website). The advisory is shared at marc.info. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2002-0681. The exploitation is known to be easy. The attack may be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is needed for a successful exploitation. It demands that the victim is doing some kind of user interaction. Technical details are unknown but a public exploit is available. MITRE ATT&CK project uses the attack technique T1059.007 for this issue.
