Memory leak in Microsoft 2000 domain controller allows remote attackers to cause a denial of service by repeatedly connecting to the Kerberos service and then disconnecting without sending any data.
The issue has been introduced in 02/17/2000. The weakness was disclosed 06/27/2001 with Microsoft as MS01-024 as confirmed bulletin (Technet). The advisory is available at microsoft.com. This vulnerability was named CVE-2001-0237. The exploitation appears to be easy. The attack can be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is required for a successful exploitation. Technical details are unknown but a public exploit is available.
It is declared as proof-of-concept. The vulnerability was handled as a non-public zero-day exploit for at least 496 days. During that time the estimated underground price was around $25k-$100k.
