A vulnerability classified as critical has been found in DCscripts DCForum up to 6.0 (Forum Software). This affects an unknown function of the file dcboard.cgi of the component Perl Handler_. The manipulation of the argument AZ with an unknown input leads to a path traversal vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-22. The product uses external input to construct a pathname that is intended to identify a file or directory that is located underneath a restricted parent directory, but the product does not properly neutralize special elements within the pathname that can cause the pathname to resolve to a location that is outside of the restricted directory. dcboard.cgi in DCForum 2000 1.0 allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary commands by uploading a Perl program to the server and using a .. (dot dot) in the AZ parameter to reference the program.
The weakness was disclosed 03/31/2003 by qDefense (Website). It is possible to read the advisory at archives.neohapsis.com. This vulnerability is uniquely identified as CVE-2001-0436. The exploitability is told to be easy. It is possible to initiate the attack remotely. No form of authentication is needed for exploitation. Technical details and a exploit are known.
