A vulnerability classified as critical was found in Sun iPlanet Directory Server up to 4.1.4 (Directory Service Software). This vulnerability affects some unknown processing of the component LDAP. iPlanet Directory Server 4.1.4 and earlier (LDAP) allows remote attackers to cause a denial of service (crash) and possibly execute arbitrary code via invalid BER length of length fields, as demonstrated by the PROTOS LDAPv3 test suite.
The weakness was disclosed 07/16/2001 as confirmed advisory (CERT.org). The advisory is available at cert.org. This vulnerability was named CVE-2001-1306. The exploitation appears to be easy. The attack can be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is required for a successful exploitation. Technical details are unknown but a public exploit is available.
