A vulnerability, which was classified as critical, has been found in Mozilla Bugzilla up to 2.14 (Bug Tracking Software). This issue affects some unknown processing of the component Security Check. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a privileges management vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-269. The product does not properly assign, modify, track, or check privileges for an actor, creating an unintended sphere of control for that actor. Bugzilla before 2.14 allows Bugzilla users to bypass group security checks by marking a bug as the duplicate of a restricted bug, which adds the user to the CC list of the restricted bug and allows the user to view the bug.
The bug was discovered 08/29/2001. The weakness was published 09/10/2001 by David Miller (Website). The advisory is shared at redhat.com. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2001-1407. The exploitation is known to be easy. The attack may be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is needed for a successful exploitation. Neither technical details nor an exploit are publicly available. MITRE ATT&CK project uses the attack technique T1068 for this issue.
