Details
A vulnerability was found in GNU FreeRADIUS 1.0.3/1.0.4 (Network Authentication Software). It has been rated as critical. Affected by this issue is an unknown function of the file rlm_ldap.c of the component LDAP. The manipulation as part of a Escapes leads to a memory corruption vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-119. The product performs operations on a memory buffer, but it can read from or write to a memory location that is outside of the intended boundary of the buffer. Impacted is confidentiality, and availability. CVE summarizes:
Off-by-one error in the sql_error function in sql_unixodbc.c in FreeRADIUS 1.0.2.5-5, and possibly other versions including 1.0.4, might allow remote attackers to cause a denial of service (crash) and possibly execute arbitrary code by causing the external database query to fail. NOTE: this single issue is part of a larger-scale disclosure, originally by SUSE, which reported multiple issues that were disputed by FreeRADIUS. Disputed issues included file descriptor leaks, memory disclosure, LDAP injection, and other issues. Without additional information, the most recent FreeRADIUS report is being regarded as the authoritative source for this CVE identifier.
The weakness was released 09/08/2005 with Red Hat as Bug 167676 as not defined bug report (Bugzilla). The advisory is shared for download at bugzilla.redhat.com. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2005-4744 since 03/28/2006. The attack may be launched remotely. No form of authentication is required for exploitation. There are known technical details, but no exploit is available.
