Icecast 1.3.7/1.3.8 Beta2/1.310 URL Encoding path traversal

CVSS Meta Temp Score
CVSS is a standardized scoring system to determine possibilities of attacks. The Temp Score considers temporal factors like disclosure, exploit and countermeasures. The unique Meta Score calculates the average score of different sources to provide a normalized scoring system.
Current Exploit Price (≈)
Our analysts are monitoring exploit markets and are in contact with vulnerability brokers. The range indicates the observed or calculated exploit price to be seen on exploit markets. A good indicator to understand the monetary effort required for and the popularity of an attack.
CTI Interest Score
Our Cyber Threat Intelligence team is monitoring different web sites, mailing lists, exploit markets and social media networks. The CTI Interest Score identifies the interest of attackers and the security community for this specific vulnerability in real-time. A high score indicates an elevated risk to be targeted for this vulnerability.

Detailsinfo

A vulnerability was found in Icecast 1.3.7/1.3.8 Beta2/1.310 and classified as problematic. Affected by this issue is an unknown code of the component URL Encoding Handler. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a path traversal vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-22. The product uses external input to construct a pathname that is intended to identify a file or directory that is located underneath a restricted parent directory, but the product does not properly neutralize special elements within the pathname that can cause the pathname to resolve to a location that is outside of the restricted directory. Impacted is confidentiality. CVE summarizes:

Directory traversal vulnerability in Icecast 1.3.10 and earlier allows remote attackers to read arbitrary files via a modified .. (dot dot) attack using encoded URL characters.

The weakness was released 06/26/2001 by GoLLuM.no with Digit-Labs (Website). The advisory is available at debian.org. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2001-0784. The exploitation is known to be easy. The attack may be launched remotely. No form of authentication is required for exploitation. Technical details are unknown but a public exploit is available. This vulnerability is assigned to T1006 by the MITRE ATT&CK project.

After immediately, there has been an exploit disclosed. The exploit is available at exploit-db.com. It is declared as proof-of-concept.
