A vulnerability was found in Tooltalk Database Server (Database Software) (unknown version) and classified as very critical. Affected by this issue is the function syslog. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a format string vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-134. The product uses a function that accepts a format string as an argument, but the format string originates from an external source. Impacted is confidentiality, integrity, and availability. Format string vulnerability in ToolTalk database server rpc.ttdbserverd allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary commands via format string specifiers that are passed to the syslog function.

The weakness was disclosed 10/30/2001 with ISS X-Force as confirmed advisory (CERT.org). The advisory is available at cert.org. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2001-0717. The exploitation is known to be easy. The attack may be launched remotely. No form of authentication is required for exploitation. Technical details are known, but there is no available exploit.
