A vulnerability was found in Leoboard LB5000 1029 (Forum Software). It has been classified as critical. Affected is an unknown code of the file search.cgi of the component Cookie Handler. The manipulation of the argument amembernamecookie with an unknown input leads to a path traversal vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-22. The product uses external input to construct a pathname that is intended to identify a file or directory that is located underneath a restricted parent directory, but the product does not properly neutralize special elements within the pathname that can cause the pathname to resolve to a location that is outside of the restricted directory. Directory traversal vulnerability in Search.cgi in Leoboard LB5000 LB5000II 1029 and earlier allows remote attackers to overwrite files and gain privileges via .. (dot dot) sequences in the amembernamecookie cookie.
The bug was discovered 10/30/2001. The weakness was published 12/06/2001 as not defined posting (Bugtraq). The advisory is shared for download at marc.theaimsgroup.com. This vulnerability is traded as CVE-2001-0842. The exploitability is told to be easy. It is possible to launch the attack remotely. The exploitation doesn't require any form of authentication.
