A vulnerability classified as problematic has been found in Microsoft Windows 2000 (Operating System). Affected is some unknown functionality of the file runas.exe of the component Named Pipe Handler. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a denial of service vulnerability. ** DISPUTED ** RunAs (runas.exe) in Windows 2000 allows local users to create a spoofed named pipe when the service is stopped, then capture cleartext usernames and passwords when clients connect to the service. NOTE: the vendor disputes this issue, saying that administrative privileges are already required to exploit it.
The issue has been introduced in 02/17/2000. The weakness was presented 12/31/2001 as not defined posting (Bugtraq). The advisory is available at online.securityfocus.com.
