Linux kernel, and possibly other operating systems, allows remote attackers to read portions of memory via a series of fragmented ICMP packets that generate an ICMP TTL Exceeded response, which includes portions of the memory in the response packet.
The issue has been introduced in 02/05/2007. The weakness was presented 04/09/2004 by Andrew Griffiths as not defined posting (Bugtraq). The advisory is shared for download at securityfocus.com. This vulnerability is traded as CVE-2002-0046. The exploitability is told to be easy. It is possible to launch the attack remotely. The exploitation doesn't require any form of authentication. Technical details are unknown but an exploit is available. The MITRE ATT&CK project declares the attack technique as T1592.
