Details
A vulnerability has been found in GNU wget 1.10 (Automation Software) and classified as critical. Affected by this vulnerability is the function ntlm_output of the component NTLM User Name Handler. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a memory corruption vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-119. The product performs operations on a memory buffer, but it can read from or write to a memory location that is outside of the intended boundary of the buffer. As an impact it is known to affect confidentiality, integrity, and availability. The summary by CVE is:
Stack-based buffer overflow in the ntlm_output function in http-ntlm.c for (1) wget 1.10, (2) curl 7.13.2, and (3) libcurl 7.13.2, and other products that use libcurl, when NTLM authentication is enabled, allows remote servers to execute arbitrary code via a long NTLM username.
The bug was discovered 10/12/2005. The weakness was presented 10/14/2005 with iDEFENSE (Website). The advisory is shared at idefense.com. This vulnerability is known as CVE-2005-3185 since 10/12/2005. The attack can be launched remotely. The exploitation doesn't need any form of authentication. Technical details are known, but no exploit is available.
