A vulnerability classified as critical has been found in Skype (Unified Communication Software). Affected is some unknown functionality of the component skype/callto URI Handler. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a memory corruption vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-119. The product performs operations on a memory buffer, but it can read from or write to a memory location that is outside of the intended boundary of the buffer. Buffer overflow in Skype for Windows 1.1.x.0 through 1.4.x.83 allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary code via (1) callto:// and (2) skype:// links, or (3) a non-standard VCARD, possibly due to an underlying error in the SysUtils.WideFmtStr Delphi routine.
The weakness was released 10/25/2005 by Mark Rowe with Skype (Website). The advisory is shared for download at skype.com. This vulnerability is traded as CVE-2005-3265 since 10/20/2005. It is possible to launch the attack remotely. The exploitation doesn't require any form of authentication. There are neither technical details nor an exploit publicly available.

Upgrading eliminates this vulnerability. Applying a patch is able to eliminate this problem. The bugfix is ready for download at skype.com.
