A vulnerability, which was classified as critical, has been found in Luca Deri ntop 2.0. Affected by this issue is the function syslog of the component TraceEvent Handler. Format string vulnerability in TraceEvent function for ntop before 2.1 allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary code by causing format strings to be injected into calls to the syslog function, via (1) an HTTP GET request, (2) a user name in HTTP authentication, or (3) a password in HTTP authentication.
The bug was discovered 03/04/2002. The weakness was presented 03/01/2002 by Peter Suschlik and hologram (Website). The advisory is shared for download at archives.neohapsis.com. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2002-0412. The exploitation is known to be easy. The attack may be launched remotely. No form of authentication is required for exploitation.
