A vulnerability, which was classified as critical, has been found in Macromedia Flash Player up to 5.0.30 (Multimedia Player Software). This issue affects the function exec of the component SWF File Handler. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a privileges management vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-269. The product does not properly assign, modify, track, or check privileges for an actor, creating an unintended sphere of control for that actor. Standalone Macromedia Flash Player 5.0 before 5,0,30,2 allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary programs via a .SWF file containing the "exec" FSCommand.
The weakness was presented 08/12/2002 with Macromedia (Website). The advisory is shared at marc.theaimsgroup.com. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2002-0477. The exploitation is known to be easy. The attack may be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is needed for a successful exploitation.
