A vulnerability was found in Rod Clark Sendform 1.4/1.4.1/1.4.2/1.4.3/1.4.4. It has been rated as critical. This issue affects an unknown code block of the file sendform.cgi. The manipulation of the argument BlurbFilePath with an unknown input leads to a path traversal vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-22. The product uses external input to construct a pathname that is intended to identify a file or directory that is located underneath a restricted parent directory, but the product does not properly neutralize special elements within the pathname that can cause the pathname to resolve to a location that is outside of the restricted directory. Directory traversal vulnerability in sendform.cgi 1.44 and earlier allows remote attackers to read arbitrary files by specifying the desired files in the BlurbFilePath parameter.
The bug was discovered 07/22/2002. The weakness was released 07/22/2002 by Steven M. Christey with MITRE as not defined posting (Bugtraq). It is possible to read the advisory at marc.theaimsgroup.com. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2002-0710. The exploitation is known to be easy. The attack may be initiated remotely.
