Details
A vulnerability has been found in PostgreSQL 6.5.0 (Database Software) and classified as critical. This vulnerability affects an unknown code block of the component Multibyte Character Handler. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a sql injection vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-89. The product constructs all or part of an SQL command using externally-influenced input from an upstream component, but it does not neutralize or incorrectly neutralizes special elements that could modify the intended SQL command when it is sent to a downstream component. As an impact it is known to affect confidentiality, integrity, and availability. CVE summarizes:
The multibyte support in PostgreSQL 6.5.x with SQL_ASCII encoding consumes an extra character when processing a character that cannot be converted, which could remove an escape character from the query and make the application subject to SQL injection attacks.
The weakness was presented 08/12/2002 (Website). The advisory is shared for download at marc.theaimsgroup.com. This vulnerability was named CVE-2002-0802. The exploitation appears to be easy.
