Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.01, 5.5, and 6.0 allows remote attackers to misrepresent the source of a file in the File Download dialogue box to trick users into thinking that the file type is safe to download, aka "File Origin Spoofing."
The issue has been introduced in 11/08/1999. The weakness was published 08/23/2002 by Jouko Pynnonen as MS02-047 as confirmed bulletin (Technet). The advisory is available at microsoft.com. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2002-0722. The exploitation is known to be easy. The attack may be launched remotely. No form of authentication is required for exploitation.
