CVSS Meta Temp Score
CVSS is a standardized scoring system to determine possibilities of attacks. The Temp Score considers temporal factors like disclosure, exploit and countermeasures. The unique Meta Score calculates the average score of different sources to provide a normalized scoring system.
Current Exploit Price (≈)
Our analysts are monitoring exploit markets and are in contact with vulnerability brokers. The range indicates the observed or calculated exploit price to be seen on exploit markets. A good indicator to understand the monetary effort required for and the popularity of an attack.
CTI Interest Score
Our Cyber Threat Intelligence team is monitoring different web sites, mailing lists, exploit markets and social media networks. The CTI Interest Score identifies the interest of attackers and the security community for this specific vulnerability in real-time. A high score indicates an elevated risk to be targeted for this vulnerability.

Detailsinfo

A vulnerability, which was classified as problematic, was found in Apache HTTP Server up to 2.0.41 (Web Server). Affected is some unknown functionality of the component mod_dav. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a resource consumption vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-400. The product does not properly control the allocation and maintenance of a limited resource, thereby enabling an actor to influence the amount of resources consumed, eventually leading to the exhaustion of available resources. This is going to have an impact on availability. CVE summarizes:

mod_dav in Apache before 2.0.42 does not properly handle versioning hooks, which may allow remote attackers to kill a child process via a null dereference and cause a denial of service (CPU consumption) in a preforked multi-processing module.

The weakness was shared 09/25/2002 as confirmed advisory (CERT.org). The advisory is shared for download at kb.cert.org. This vulnerability is traded as CVE-2002-1593 since 03/13/2005. The exploitability is told to be easy. It is possible to launch the attack remotely. The exploitation doesn't require any form of authentication. There are neither technical details nor an exploit publicly available.

The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 86810 (Apache 2.0 HTTP Server mod_dav Denial of Service Vulnerability).

Upgrading to version 2.0.42 eliminates this vulnerability.

The vulnerability is also documented in the databases at X-Force (10208), SecurityFocus (BID 5816†), SecurityTracker (ID 1005285†) and Vulnerability Center (SBV-4792†). The entries VDB-18094 and VDB-18742 are related to this item. Once again VulDB remains the best source for vulnerability data.
