A vulnerability was found in Pablo FTP Server up to 1.0 (File Transfer Software) and classified as critical. Affected by this issue is an unknown code block of the component Command Handler. The manipulation of the argument LIST with an unknown input leads to a path traversal vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-22. The product uses external input to construct a pathname that is intended to identify a file or directory that is located underneath a restricted parent directory, but the product does not properly neutralize special elements within the pathname that can cause the pathname to resolve to a location that is outside of the restricted directory. Impacted is confidentiality, and integrity. CVE summarizes:

Directory traversal vulnerability in Pablo FTP server 1.0 build 9 and earlier allows remote authenticated users to list arbitrary directories via "..\" (dot-dot backslash) sences in a LIST command.

The weakness was presented 07/22/2002 by Arnaud Jacques as not defined posting (Bugtraq). The advisory is shared for download at online.securityfocus.com. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2002-1054. The exploitation is known to be easy. The attack may be launched remotely. No form of authentication is required for exploitation.
