A vulnerability classified as critical was found in Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.5/6.0 (Web Browser). This vulnerability affects an unknown code block of the component Frame Handler. Cross-Frame scripting vulnerability in the WebBrowser control as used in Internet Explorer 5.5 and 6.0 allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary code, read arbitrary files, or conduct other unauthorized activities via script that accesses the Document property, which bypasses <frame> and <iframe> domain restrictions.
The issue has been introduced in 07/08/2000. The weakness was presented 10/28/2002 by GreyMagic (Website). The advisory is shared for download at security.greymagic.com. This vulnerability was named CVE-2002-1217. The exploitation appears to be easy. The attack can be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is required for a successful exploitation. Technical details are unknown but a public exploit is available. The MITRE ATT&CK project declares the attack technique as T1068.
It is possible to download the exploit at exploit-db.com. It is declared as proof-of-concept. The vulnerability was handled as a non-public zero-day exploit for at least 842 days. During that time the estimated underground price was around $25k-$100k.
