A vulnerability has been found in Jason Orcutt Prometheus 3.0 Beta/4.0 Beta/6.0 and classified as critical. This vulnerability affects an unknown function of the file index.php. The manipulation of the argument PROMETHEUS_LIBRARY_BASE with an unknown input leads to a privileges management vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-269. Prometheus 6.0 and earlier allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary PHP code via a modified PROMETHEUS_LIBRARY_BASE that points to code stored on a remote server, which is then used in (1) index.php, (2) install.php, or (3) various test_*.php scripts.
The bug was discovered 10/31/2002. The weakness was presented 11/12/2002 by Karol Wiesek (Website). The advisory is available at idefense.com. This vulnerability was named CVE-2002-1211. The exploitation appears to be easy. The attack can be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is required for a successful exploitation. Technical details and also a public exploit are known. This vulnerability is assigned to T1068 by the MITRE ATT&CK project.
It is possible to download the exploit at exploit-db.com. It is declared as proof-of-concept. The vulnerability was handled as a non-public zero-day exploit for at least 12 days.
