Unspecified vulnerability in the Management Interface in VMware ESX Server 2.x up to 2.5.x before 24 December 2005 allows "remote code execution in the Web browser" via unspecified attack vectors, probably related to cross-site scripting (XSS).
The bug was discovered 06/01/2006. The weakness was disclosed 12/30/2005 with Vmware (Website). The advisory is shared at vmware.com. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2005-4583 since 12/29/2005. The attack may be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is needed for a successful exploitation. It demands that the victim is doing some kind of user interaction. Neither technical details nor an exploit are publicly available. MITRE ATT&CK project uses the attack technique T1059.007 for this issue.
It is declared as proof-of-concept. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 38511 (VMware ESX Server Management Interface Unspecified Code Execution).
Applying a patch is able to eliminate this problem. The bugfix is ready for download at vmware.com.
