A vulnerability, which was classified as critical, has been found in askSam Web Publisher (affected version unknown). Affected by this issue is an unknown functionality of the file as_web.exe/as_web4.exe. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a cross site scripting vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-80. The product receives input from an upstream component, but it does not neutralize or incorrectly neutralizes special characters such as "<", ">", and "&" that could be interpreted as web-scripting elements when they are sent to a downstream component that processes web pages. Cross-site scripting vulnerability (XSS) in (1) as_web.exe and (2) as_web4.exe in askSam Web Publisher 1 and 4 allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary script as other users via a URL.
The bug was discovered 05/04/2002. The weakness was published 12/31/2002 as not defined posting (Bugtraq). The advisory is available at online.securityfocus.com. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2002-1727 since 06/21/2005. The attack may be launched remotely. No form of authentication is required for exploitation. Successful exploitation requires user interaction by the victim. Technical details as well as a public exploit are known. This vulnerability is assigned to T1059.007 by the MITRE ATT&CK project.
