Details
A vulnerability classified as critical has been found in Linux Kernel up to 2.6.15 (Operating System). Affected is an unknown code block of the file sysctl.c. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a memory corruption vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-119. The product performs operations on a memory buffer, but it can read from or write to a memory location that is outside of the intended boundary of the buffer. This is going to have an impact on confidentiality, integrity, and availability. CVE summarizes:
Linux kernel before 2.6.15 allows local users to cause a denial of service (panic) via a set_mempolicy call with a 0 bitmask, which causes a panic when a page fault occurs.
The weakness was shared 01/04/2006 by Yi Yang (Website). The advisory is shared for download at kernel.org. This vulnerability is traded as CVE-2005-3358 since 10/27/2005. Access to the local network is required for this attack. The exploitation doesn't require any form of authentication. Technical details and a public exploit are known.
A public exploit has been developed in ANSI C. The exploit is shared for download at securityfocus.com. It is declared as proof-of-concept.
