dump 0.4 b10 through b29 allows local users to cause a denial of service (execution prevention) by using flock() to lock the /etc/dumpdates file.
The bug was discovered 07/17/2002. The weakness was released 12/31/2002 by lumpy (Website). The advisory is shared for download at securityfocus.com. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2002-1914 since 06/29/2005. The exploitation is known to be easy. The attack needs to be approached locally.
