Extended Interior Gateway Routing Protocol (EIGRP), as implemented in Cisco IOS 11.3 through 12.2 and other products, allows remote attackers to cause a denial of service (flood) by sending a large number of spoofed EIGRP neighbor announcements, which results in an ARP storm on the local network.

The bug was discovered 12/18/2002. The weakness was published 10/08/2002 by FX with Arhont Ltd. as confirmed posting (Bugtraq). The advisory is available at securityfocus.com. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2002-2208 since 12/21/2005. The exploitation is known to be easy. The attack may be launched remotely. No form of authentication is required for exploitation.
