Details
A vulnerability classified as critical was found in FreeBSD up to 6.0-STABLE (Operating System). This vulnerability affects some unknown functionality of the component net80211. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a memory corruption vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-119. The product performs operations on a memory buffer, but it can read from or write to a memory location that is outside of the intended boundary of the buffer. As an impact it is known to affect confidentiality, integrity, and availability. CVE summarizes:
Integer overflow in IEEE 802.11 network subsystem (ieee80211_ioctl.c) in FreeBSD before 6.0-STABLE, while scanning for wireless networks, allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary code by broadcasting crafted (1) beacon or (2) probe response frames.
The bug was discovered 01/18/2006. The weakness was published 01/18/2006 by Karl Janmar (Website). The advisory is available at ftp.freebsd.org. This vulnerability was named CVE-2006-0226 since 01/17/2006. The attack can be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is required for a successful exploitation.
