Details
A vulnerability was found in Flux and kustomize-controller on Kubernetes (version now known). It has been declared as critical. Affected by this vulnerability is some unknown processing of the file kustomization.yaml. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a path traversal vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-22. The product uses external input to construct a pathname that is intended to identify a file or directory that is located underneath a restricted parent directory, but the product does not properly neutralize special elements within the pathname that can cause the pathname to resolve to a location that is outside of the restricted directory. As an impact it is known to affect integrity, and availability.
The weakness was disclosed 05/06/2022 as GHSA-7pwf-jg34-hxwp. The advisory is shared at github.com. This vulnerability is known as CVE-2022-24878 since 02/10/2022. Technical details are known, but no exploit is available. MITRE ATT&CK project uses the attack technique T1006 for this issue.
