The RPC module in Webmin 0.21 through 0.99, when installed without root or admin privileges, allows remote attackers to read and write to arbitrary files and execute arbitrary commands via remote_foreign_require and remote_foreign_call requests.
The weakness was disclosed 12/31/2002 by Noam Rathaus with SecuriTeam (Website). The advisory is available at derkeiler.com. This vulnerability was named CVE-2002-2360 since 10/29/2007. The attack can be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is required for a successful exploitation. Technical details and also a public exploit are known. This vulnerability is assigned to T1068 by the MITRE ATT&CK project.
A public exploit has been developed in Perl. It is possible to download the exploit at securityfocus.com. It is declared as proof-of-concept. The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 108543 (Webmin 0.21 <= 1.0 Multiple Vulnerabilities), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment.
