A vulnerability was found in Aestiva HTML OS 2.4. It has been rated as problematic. Affected by this issue is an unknown code of the component Error Message Handler. The manipulation with the input value / leads to a cross site scripting vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-80. The product receives input from an upstream component, but it does not neutralize or incorrectly neutralizes special characters such as "<", ">", and "&" that could be interpreted as web-scripting elements when they are sent to a downstream component that processes web pages. Cross-site scripting (XSS) vulnerabilities in Aestiva HTML/OS allows remote attackers to insert arbitrary HTML or script by inserting the script after a trailing / character, which inserts the script into the resulting error message.
The bug was discovered 09/03/2002. The weakness was released 04/02/2003 as not defined posting (Bugtraq). The advisory is shared for download at archives.neohapsis.com. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2002-1494. The attack may be launched remotely. No form of authentication is required for exploitation. Successful exploitation requires user interaction by the victim. Technical details as well as a public exploit are known. The MITRE ATT&CK project declares the attack technique as T1059.007.
