IBM Tivoli Access Manager up to 6.0 pkmslogout path traversal

CVSS Meta Temp Score
CVSS is a standardized scoring system to determine possibilities of attacks. The Temp Score considers temporal factors like disclosure, exploit and countermeasures. The unique Meta Score calculates the average score of different sources to provide a normalized scoring system.
Current Exploit Price (≈)
Our analysts are monitoring exploit markets and are in contact with vulnerability brokers. The range indicates the observed or calculated exploit price to be seen on exploit markets. A good indicator to understand the monetary effort required for and the popularity of an attack.
CTI Interest Score
Our Cyber Threat Intelligence team is monitoring different web sites, mailing lists, exploit markets and social media networks. The CTI Interest Score identifies the interest of attackers and the security community for this specific vulnerability in real-time. A high score indicates an elevated risk to be targeted for this vulnerability.

Detailsinfo

A vulnerability was found in IBM Tivoli Access Manager up to 6.0 (Access Management Software). It has been classified as critical. This affects an unknown functionality. The manipulation of the argument pkmslogout with an unknown input leads to a path traversal vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-22. The product uses external input to construct a pathname that is intended to identify a file or directory that is located underneath a restricted parent directory, but the product does not properly neutralize special elements within the pathname that can cause the pathname to resolve to a location that is outside of the restricted directory. This is going to have an impact on confidentiality, and integrity. The summary by CVE is:

Directory traversal vulnerability in pkmslogout in Tivoli Web Server Plug-in 5.1.0.10 in Tivoli Access Manager (TAM) 5.1 allows remote attackers to read arbitrary files via a .. (dot dot) in the filename parameter.

The weakness was released 02/06/2006 by Timothy D. Morgan with Virtual Security Research (Website). It is possible to read the advisory at vsecurity.com. This vulnerability is uniquely identified as CVE-2006-0513 since 02/02/2006. It is possible to initiate the attack remotely. No form of authentication is needed for exploitation. Technical details and a public exploit are known. The attack technique deployed by this issue is T1006 according to MITRE ATT&CK.

After even before and not, there has been an exploit disclosed. The exploit is shared for download at exploit-db.com. It is declared as highly functional. The vulnerability was handled as a non-public zero-day exploit for at least 3 days. During that time the estimated underground price was around $5k-$25k.

Applying a patch is able to eliminate this problem. The bugfix is ready for download at www-1.ibm.com.

The vulnerability is also documented in the databases at X-Force (24485), Exploit-DB (27163), SecurityFocus (BID 16494†), OSVDB (22933†) and Secunia (SA18725†). Be aware that VulDB is the high quality source for vulnerability data.
