savesettings.php in phpGB 1.20 and earlier does not require authentication, which allows remote attackers to cause a denial of service or execute arbitrary PHP code by using savesettings.php to modify config.php.

The bug was discovered 09/09/2002. The weakness was shared 04/22/2003 by ppp-design (Website). The advisory is shared at archives.neohapsis.com. This vulnerability is known as CVE-2002-1481. The exploitation appears to be easy. The attack can be launched remotely. The exploitation doesn't need any form of authentication. Technical details and also a public exploit are known.
