Oracle Communications Cloud Native Core Console 22.1.2 CNC Console early validation

CVSS Meta Temp Score
CVSS is a standardized scoring system to determine possibilities of attacks. The Temp Score considers temporal factors like disclosure, exploit and countermeasures. The unique Meta Score calculates the average score of different sources to provide a normalized scoring system.
Current Exploit Price (≈)
Our analysts are monitoring exploit markets and are in contact with vulnerability brokers. The range indicates the observed or calculated exploit price to be seen on exploit markets. A good indicator to understand the monetary effort required for and the popularity of an attack.
CTI Interest Score
Our Cyber Threat Intelligence team is monitoring different web sites, mailing lists, exploit markets and social media networks. The CTI Interest Score identifies the interest of attackers and the security community for this specific vulnerability in real-time. A high score indicates an elevated risk to be targeted for this vulnerability.

Detailsinfo

A vulnerability was found in Oracle Communications Cloud Native Core Console 22.1.2 (Cloud Software). It has been rated as critical. Affected by this issue is some unknown functionality of the component CNC Console. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-179. The product validates input before applying protection mechanisms that modify the input, which could allow an attacker to bypass the validation via dangerous inputs that only arise after the modification. Impacted is confidentiality, integrity, and availability. CVE summarizes:

An arbitrary file write vulnerability was found in GNU gzip's zgrep utility. When zgrep is applied on the attacker's chosen file name (for example, a crafted file name), this can overwrite an attacker's content to an arbitrary attacker-selected file. This flaw occurs due to insufficient validation when processing filenames with two or more newlines where selected content and the target file names are embedded in crafted multi-line file names. This flaw allows a remote, low privileged attacker to force zgrep to write arbitrary files on the system.

The weakness was published 07/19/2022 as Oracle Critical Patch Update Advisory - July 2022. The advisory is available at oracle.com. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2022-1271. Successful exploitation requires user interaction by the victim. The technical details are unknown and an exploit is not available.

The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 236566 (Alibaba Cloud Linux 3 : 0030: gzip (ALINUX3-SA-2022:0030)), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment.

Upgrading eliminates this vulnerability. A possible mitigation has been published immediately after the disclosure of the vulnerability.

The vulnerability is also documented in the vulnerability database at Tenable (236566). If you want to get best quality of vulnerability data, you may have to visit VulDB.
