Details
A vulnerability classified as critical has been found in Oracle Communications Cloud Native Core Unified Data Repository 22.2.0 (Cloud Software). This affects an unknown part of the component UDR. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-179. The product validates input before applying protection mechanisms that modify the input, which could allow an attacker to bypass the validation via dangerous inputs that only arise after the modification. This is going to have an impact on confidentiality, integrity, and availability. The summary by CVE is:
An arbitrary file write vulnerability was found in GNU gzip's zgrep utility. When zgrep is applied on the attacker's chosen file name (for example, a crafted file name), this can overwrite an attacker's content to an arbitrary attacker-selected file. This flaw occurs due to insufficient validation when processing filenames with two or more newlines where selected content and the target file names are embedded in crafted multi-line file names. This flaw allows a remote, low privileged attacker to force zgrep to write arbitrary files on the system.
The weakness was released 07/19/2022 as Oracle Critical Patch Update Advisory - July 2022. It is possible to read the advisory at oracle.com. This vulnerability is uniquely identified as CVE-2022-1271. It demands that the victim is doing some kind of user interaction. The technical details are unknown and an exploit is not publicly available.
The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 236566 (Alibaba Cloud Linux 3 : 0030: gzip (ALINUX3-SA-2022:0030)), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment.
Upgrading eliminates this vulnerability. A possible mitigation has been published immediately after the disclosure of the vulnerability.
