The Administration Console for BEA Tuxedo 8.1 and earlier allows remote attackers to cause a denial of service (hang) via pathname arguments that contain MS-DOS device names such as CON and AUX.
The bug was discovered 10/29/2003. The weakness was disclosed 12/01/2003 with Corsaire Limited (Website). The advisory is shared for download at marc.info. This vulnerability is traded as CVE-2003-0622 since 07/31/2003. The exploitability is told to be easy. It is possible to launch the attack remotely. The exploitation doesn't require any form of authentication. There are neither technical details nor an exploit publicly available.
The vulnerability was handled as a non-public zero-day exploit for at least 33 days. During that time the estimated underground price was around $5k-$25k.
