A vulnerability, which was classified as problematic, has been found in Ethereal up to 0.9.15 (Packet Analyzer Software). This issue affects an unknown part of the component ISAKMP/MEGACO Packet Handler. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a denial of service vulnerability. Ethereal 0.9.15 and earlier, and Tethereal, allows remote attackers to cause a denial of service (crash) via certain malformed (1) ISAKMP or (2) MEGACO packets.
The bug was discovered 11/03/2003. The weakness was disclosed 12/01/2003 (Website). The advisory is shared at distro.conectiva.com.br. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2003-0926 since 11/05/2003. The exploitation is known to be easy. The attack may be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is needed for a successful exploitation. Neither technical details nor an exploit are publicly available.
