This issue affects an unknown code block of the component Web Site Handler. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a memory corruption vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-119. The product performs operations on a memory buffer, but it can read from or write to a memory location that is outside of the intended boundary of the buffer. Impacted is confidentiality, integrity, and availability. The summary by CVE is:
Heap-based buffer overflow in the embedded player in multiple RealNetworks products and versions including RealPlayer 10.x, RealOne Player, and Helix Player allows remote malicious servers to cause a denial of service (crash) and possibly execute arbitrary code via a chunked Transfer-Encoding HTTP response in which either (1) the chunk header length is specified as -1, (2) the chunk header with a length that is less than the actual amount of sent data, or (3) a missing chunk header.
The weakness was published 03/23/2006 by John Heasman, Greg MacManus and Sowhat (Website). The advisory is shared at service.real.com. The public release has been coordinated with RealNetworks. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2005-2922 since 09/15/2005. The attack may be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is needed for a successful exploitation. Technical details are unknown but a private exploit is available.
It is declared as proof-of-concept.
