A vulnerability was found in BEA WebLogic Server up to 8.1 SP1 (Application Server Software) and classified as problematic. This issue affects an unknown functionality of the component Node Manager. The Node Manager for BEA WebLogic Express and Server 6.1 through 8.1 SP 1 allows remote attackers to cause a denial of service (Node Manager crash) via malformed data to the Node Manager s port, as demonstrated by nmap.
The bug was discovered 11/13/2003. The weakness was published 12/31/2003 by JaMbA with Developer (Website). It is possible to read the advisory at dev2dev.bea.com. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2003-1223 since 08/16/2005. The exploitation is known to be easy. The attack may be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is needed for a successful exploitation. The technical details are unknown and an exploit is not publicly available.
The vulnerability was handled as a non-public zero-day exploit for at least 48 days. During that time the estimated underground price was around $5k-$25k.
