A vulnerability has been found in NetBSD up to 3.0 (Operating System) and classified as problematic. Affected by this vulnerability is an unknown code block of the file .mailrc of the component Mail. The product does not properly assign, modify, track, or check privileges for an actor, creating an unintended sphere of control for that actor. NetBSD 1.6 up to 3.0, when a user has "set record" in .mailrc with the default umask set, creates the record file with 0644 permissions, which allows local users to read the record file.
The weakness was shared 03/30/2006 by Johan Veenhuizen (Website). It is possible to read the advisory at ftp.netbsd.org. This vulnerability is known as CVE-2006-1587 since 04/02/2006.
